MEDICAL RESPONSE TO MAJOR INCIDENTS (MRMI)

May 13 – 15, 2010 – Utrecht, The Netherlands

Prior to the 11th European Congress of Trauma & Emergency Surgery, a satellite course as above is organized in collaboration between ESTES Section for Disaster & Military Surgery and the Mass Casualty Incident Hospital (UMC, Utrecht, the Netherlands).

Background and aims
The medical response to major incidents is a chain of many components: Prehospital response, transport, hospital response, communication, coordination & command. The outcome of the response is dependent of the function of all these components, and also (which is important) how they function together.

ESTES – EUROPEAN TRAUMA COURSE (ETC)

May 13 – 15, 2010 - Brussels, Belgium 

European Trauma Course
The European Trauma Course (ETC) is a project of the European Trauma Working Group (ETWG). It is a two and a half day simulation based, hands-on course for doctors. The course is mainly practical and the candidates will be led in small groups through scenarios of increasing difficulty.

What’s new?

  • The ETC provides training for individuals and teams.
  • Lecture time is kept to a minimum and emphasis is placed on hands-on scenario training
  • The ETC meets the requirement of adult education.
  • It implements model-based simulators. 

Aims

ADVANCED TRAUMA LIFE SUPPORT COURSE

May 18 – 19, 2010 – Leuven, Belgium
(reduced fee in combination with ESTES congress)  

Content
The ATLS® course was developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) more than 25 years ago and has now been adopted in over 40 countries worldwide. It teaches a simple systematic approach to the management of trauma patients, treating the most life-threatening injury within “the first critical hour”...  

Format

  • Highly interactive course combining lectures, discussions, interactive tutorials, skills teaching and simulated patient management scenarios (moulage).
  • There is continual assessment throughout the course.
  • Candidates must complete a pre-course MCQ  

Duration, location and language
This English spoken ATLS course contains 2 days: May 18 and 19, 2010 and will be held  at the Louvain/Leuven University Hospital, a 30 minutes drive from the congress venue.
